Greetings, it has been a while.  But we’re still alive and kicking and will be trying to prove it on Thursday March 15, 7:30pm at Club Cafe. Since this will be the first gig in a long time without our guest poets, we’ll be bringing the big amps. This show will again feature the multi-of-talent and freshly-of-faced Richard Dannenberg on violin and cello.  Opening up will be my good friend, Eric Riebling’s Improv Project.  See details here.

Also, I’ve moved the sample songs from the various places on the site to one spot.  check out the Tunes section for one-stop listening to our music.

On Wednesday May 24, Cap Gun Quartet and poet Romella D. Kitchens will once again team up for a poetry and music intertwining at Club Cafe. The band will actually be a sextet, including both Richard Strong and Jay Matula on Drums and percussion systems, and introducing Richard Dannenberg on the cello. See details here.

For the last show (see below) Bob karlovits of the Trib-Review wrote a nice preview piece and then came to the show and wrote a review which mentioned “. . . the edgy play of bassist Jeff Stringer and Trumpeter Roger Dannenberg wrapped around the poetry like telling Punctuation.” Thanks Bob!

On Thursday December 29, Cap Gun Quartet Meets the Poets at Club Cafe. This time around, we will be accompanying two of Pittsburgh Finest, Michael Wurster and Romella D. Kitchens.  The musical interaction with the poetry is both improvised and composed.  Check out some samples from a previous show below. Joining us on Keys will be Christopher McDonald, fresh from Chicago via Boston.

But Wait!  There’s more! We will be playing the early show at Club Cafe, and our good friend Evan Knauer of ATS will be hosting a singer/songwriter evening for the late show. We’ve arranged with Club Cafe that folks who arrive during our show can stay for Evan’s show without being shaken down for another $5.  Two shows for the price of one! We’re calling it Crossing Over. So get away from the relatives and prepare for New Year’s Eve.  Check here for details.

On October 15 we’ll be trying something new, well for us anyway.  We’re going to back Poet Extraordinaire Romella D. Kitchens at a benefit for Autumn House Press which is a national poetry press based in Pittsburgh. We’ll be improvising and playing composed music and generally interacting with Romella and her poetry.  In addition, world famous poets with Pittsburgh connections including Gerald Stern, a National Book Award winner, Terrance Hayes, and Richard Jackson will be reading their poetry. The show starts with us including our old pal Jay Matula on percussion at 8 pm.  Check out the details here.

Ah Yes, when it rains it pours . . . Also on October 15, A.T.S. is having their 20th Year reunion at the 31st Pub.  I hear Steve Heineman and Josh Arnson will be back with assorted guests (including yours truly if they let me).  The show starts at 10 pm so start the evening with some poetry and end with rolling rock and A.T.S. at the Skull Room.
